EASTER WEEK: A TODDLER JOURNEY

Dear friends,

Everyone is more than entitled to their own beliefs and traditions at Easter. My family and I personally believe that it is the time that we recognize that Jesus sacrificed his own life through persecution and then death on the cross for the sake of our selfish hearts so that we could have the CHOICE to live with him in heaven after we die. Three days after he was nailed and murdered on the cross...he ROSE from his tomb and was ALIVE!!! The ultimate miracle and display of God's awesome power and purpose.

However, I also love the fun of eggs and such at Easter. I grew dyeing eggs and hunting for them and receiving a basket and so on. Like Christmas, there are special things that remind us about life and gifts at Easter too and we will definitely have fun with those things throughout her life. But while my little one will be hunting for eggs and receiving a special gift from us, we also want to allow her to learn about Easter in a different way...a foundational way so that she gains a Biblical understanding of Easter.

At Christmas, I had created a Nativity Journey for her all month long that was just perfect for her age! It was fun, it was something to find each day and we learned so much about the journey itself. So, here at Easter, I've created a mix of things...egg hunt, scavenger hunt, activity station, song and story. Here's how today (Palm Sunday) will work as we begin our Easter week here in our home:

-She will hunt for one egg
-Inside that egg there will be pictures of what she needs to find
-On the last item found there is the story (reference from the Bible) to go along with that day
-Today, she will need to find a donkey, five "palm" leaves (ferns in this case), and the bag of blocks
-We will use the blocks to build the temple that Jesus will visit and recreate a scene using the donkey and leaves
-We will have leaves of our own and listen to the story.
-We will end with song and dance..."HOSANNA!"

Happy Easter Week to all of you as we approach a humbling holiday. And happy first day of Spring!!!! Yay!!!
